
Abia State, Nigeria – The Abia State Police Command has confirmed the tragic death of seven individuals and injuries to five others following an auto accident at Ukpakiri village, near Aba, along the Ikot Ekpene Highway.
The accident involved a Sienna Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV) operated by Akwa Ibom Integrated Transport, which collided head-on with a tipper lorry loaded with sharp sand. The collision resulted in the immediate death of seven passengers aboard the SUV.
Five other individuals sustained serious injuries and were promptly taken to a nearby hospital for medical treatment.
In a statement, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) Maureen Chinaka confirmed the incident: “The accident occurred at Ukpakiri village along Ikot Ekpene Road in Obingwa LGA. Seven unidentified persons died, and five sustained injuries.”
Chinaka added that police officers had visited the accident scene, deposited the bodies at the mortuary, rushed the injured to the hospital, and recovered relevant exhibits to the police station. “Investigation is ongoing,” she stated.
