
Imama Town, Kura LGA, Kano State — At least 14 worshippers lost their lives and several others sustained injuries when a trailer plowed into Jumuat prayer attendees in Imama town, Kura Local Government Area of Kano State.
The tragic incident occurred shortly after the Friday prayer when the driver of the trailer, traveling from the Kaduna axis and bearing the number plate MKA 537XN, lost control and collided with the worshippers.
Ibrahim Abdullahi, the Kano Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), confirmed the accident in a statement issued by the Corps spokesman, Abdullahi Labaran, on Friday. The accident was reported around 1:50 PM.
Nine of the deceased were buried on Friday afternoon, while the injured are receiving treatment at a local hospital. The driver of the trailer remains at large, according to the statement.
“Upon receiving the distress call, FRSC Kano State Command promptly dispatched personnel to the scene, alongside other security agencies, to initiate rescue operations and provide immediate medical assistance to the injured victims,” the statement read.
Abdullahi reiterated the FRSC’s commitment to road safety and urged all road users to adhere strictly to traffic regulations to prevent such avoidable tragedies.
“The Sector Commander extends heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased,” the statement concluded.
